Waiting for your interview schedule? Getting a job surely requires a lot of patience. If you wanted to pursue being a successful freelancer, make use of your free time to create building your profile. I have these saved in a folder in case a client would ask for it.

1) Resume – A simple and easy to read resume can be an impression of yourself too so be sure that your experiences on your resume are all updated and organized. That tells your employer that you are that type of person in real-life. Proofread the dates and check for misspelt words and incorrect grammar. It would be best if a picture of yourself is there as well. I personally save a .PDF file of my resume as some clients want it in that format.

2) Introduction video – This 2-3 minute video is all about yourself. Talk a little bit about your personal life, your goals and achievements then answer the question, “Why you are a good fit for the role?”. Discuss your skillset that can help a specific business as a virtual assistant or something else.

3) Requirements – I usually have a scanned copy of all my employment certificates, NBI clearance, diploma, and training certificate saved in one folder.

4) Business photo – There are clients who ask for your photo. For me, this is easy because you can just use your mobile phone to take a good shot of yourself wearing a suit and a tie. It’s not always like that. At least a decent polo shirt for guys or a nice blouse for the girls would do. Make sure you have a well-lit space and plain background. Use lights! Touching up your face a little bit would be great too. Lastly, make sure you smile 🙂

5) Website – Having knowledge of building your own website is a huge advantage for clients as businesses are venturing to use online platforms for marketing (Check my blog about it) so they would need someone who can moderate their website. Use basic HTML or a web-building website like WordPress to create a profile for yourself where clients can see your achievements, experiences, contact information, etc.

6) Equipment – Make sure you have a computer with a webcam, headset, stable internet connection, and a good space for working. A backup of these is sometimes required for a client who is looking for a freelancer. I personally use my phone as a backup connection and a laptop in case a power interruption happens.

7) Lastly, CONFIDENCE – You wouldn’t get something if you don’t desire it. Looking for a job posting and submitting an application is easy but getting one would be difficult because you’ll have competition with others the same as you. Be sure to always show confidence in a phone or video interview. SMILE as your tone gives your interviewer an impression of what type of personality do you have.

I hope that these tips will help you on your job hunting journey. Good luck!
